Guide to Selecting Door and Window Hardware: Small Components Determine Longevity

Door and window hardware components are the "invisible heroes", responsible for the opening, closing and fixation of doors and windows. Their quality directly affects the service life and user experience of the doors and windows. Many doors and windows leak, deform, and have stuck movements, all of which are related to the poor quality of the hardware components. 

1. Classification and functions of core hardware components: 

(1) Hinges: Connect the frame of the door and window and the door panel, determining the opening flexibility and load-bearing capacity of the door and window. Common types include flat-opening hinges and hinges (specific for sliding doors). When purchasing, prioritize choosing stainless steel or aluminum alloy materials with a thickness of ≥ 3mm. They have strong load-bearing capacity, are not prone to rust or deformation. 

(2) Handle: The ability to control the opening and closing of doors and windows, the smoothness of the grip, and its durability all depend on the quality of the handle. It is recommended to choose zinc alloy or aluminum alloy handles. The surface should be smooth without burrs, and there should be no sticking when opening. Handles with anti-theft functions (such as multi-point locking handles) are even better. 

(3) Locks: They ensure the security of doors and windows against theft, and are classified as single-point locks and multi-point locks. A single-point lock locks only one area, resulting in poor security; a multi-point lock can lock all around the doors and windows simultaneously, providing better security and is suitable for high-rise residences or houses located near the street. It is recommended to choose a C-level lock core for the lock, as it offers the best security performance. 

(4) Pulleys: Mainly used for sliding doors and sliding windows, they determine the smoothness of opening and the level of noise. Preferentially choose stainless steel or nylon pulleys, which roll smoothly without noise and have strong load-bearing capacity. Avoid choosing plastic pulleys (which are prone to wear and breakage). 

2. Purchase Tips: Try to choose hardware products that are compatible with the brand of the doors and windows. This will ensure better quality. The surface should be free of oxidation and scratches, with a smooth touch and no looseness. Check the product certificate to avoid purchasing unqualified products. High-quality hardware can last for over 10 years, while inferior hardware will start to rust, get stuck, or break down within 3 to 5 years.
